Carbon Neutrality Essentials
Cemex pledged to become a Net Zero CO₂ emissions company by the year 2050, and many initiatives have been
introduced ever since to work towards this goal. When we first introduced this goal to all employees, there were many
aspects unknown about our CO₂ emissions, why it was harmful to our environment and what employees could do to be
mindful of our own impact in the environment. Cemex University introduced this course in late 2022, and it quickly
became the most widely completed course inside Cemex. This learning experience was fundamental in helping employees
understand Cemex’s sustainability goals and the strategy to achieve such goals.
This initiative was recognized by Brandon Hall in 2023 with a Gold Award as Best Learning Program supporting a Change
Transformation Business Strategy.

Cemex University Digital Learning Ecosystem
In the midst of our digital transformation, Cemex in 2015 was changing how employees engaged with external and internal
customers. Employees were being challenged to develop a growth mindset and enhance their skills for their new jobs while
preparing for their jobs of tomorrow. Cemex University was created to support employee skill development during this
cultural evolution and to help the business become a digitally enabled learning organization.
The Cemex University team were tasked with leading this digital learning initiative and to instill a culture of growth,
development, and agility across the global company. When the initiative began, Cemex hosted an in-person, instructor-led
training program (ILT) that reached 1,000 learners. The team was thrilled with the enthusiastic response from participants
and quickly began to consider how they might scale the program to18,000 online learners with the existing technology and
resources. Through the implementation of NovoEd’s Digital Learning Experience platform, Cemex was able to reach this
massive target within two years, while creating a myriad of new targeted learning experiences aligned with their vision of
creating business Capabilities. Brandon Hall recognized this initiative with a Bronze Award for Best Advance in creating a
learning strategy.
